Introduction

As one of the first cremation societies in the United States, Neptune Society of San Diego has been proudly serving families in Southern California since 1973. Our family-owned business takes pride in offering friendly service and affordable options for cremation and traditional funeral services. Whether you choose to pre-pay for cremation services or merely wish to take advantage of our free membership, our goal is to help your loved ones carry out and honor your final wishes.

It's never easy to talk about our eventual death but dealing with the reality of it allows us to choose what we want regarding our final arrangements. Delaying this discussion shifts the burden onto the ones we love, forcing them to navigate through their grief as they try to honor your wishes while also shouldering all the financial responsibility. Making final arrangements for yourself consists of two parts: pre-planning and pre-paying. Pre-planning is free and is done by completing a simple Membership Form which lists your biographical information and final instructions are recorded and kept on file. Pre-paying allows you to purchase future cremation services at today's prices thus removing the financial burden from your loved ones at the time of your death.

Neptune San Diego is regulated by the California Department of Consumer Affairs Cemetery and Funeral Bureau. The Bureau has assembled a Consumer Booklet to assist and guide families with their research.

Cremation

Cremation is an affordable alternative to a traditional funeral and burial. It allows for a person's remains to be disposed of in a more environmentally conscious form. Because of the affordability and low environmental impact, cremation is quickly becoming a growing trend for families in the United States.

Neptune San Diego offers a comprehensive Direct Cremation Package (without ceremony) that includes: removal of remains within San Diego County to our facility in El Cajon, basic services of the Funeral Director and staff, a proportionate share of overhead costs, refrigerated shelter of remains, transportation to the crematory, a state-mandated combustible cremation container, securing of necessary authorizations, obtaining the required Disposition Permit (1), and the mandatory Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) fee. With this package we offer the choice to have cremated remains scattered (unattended) at sea by Neptune San Diego, (or) to return the cremated remains to the next of kin, (or) to deliver the cremated remains to a local cemetery, in a durable plastic urn.

Embalming

Embalming is the process of preserving a body by replacing its bodily fluids with chemical preservatives in order to slow the decomposition. In California, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as Direct Cremation or Immediate Burial.

Funeral Services

Neptune San Diego is a full-service mortuary offering funeral and burial services as well as cremation. Please contact an Arrangement Counselor for further details and let our experienced staff assist you.

On-Site Chapel

Our small on-site chapel in El Cajon, CA can be used for formal viewings, funeral services, or Celebration of Life events. However, we do not have reception facilities in our chapel so no food or drinks (other than bottled water) are permitted on the premises for events.

Pre-Paying for Cremation

Neptune San Diego utilizes the services of American Funeral and Cremation Trust Services (AFCTS) to manage our preneed trust contracts. All pre-paid funds are placed into a Preneed Cremation Trust Account which remains untouched until the beneficiary passes away at which point the funds are withdrawn by Neptune San Diego to use the account's funds to pay for the services outlined in the original contract.

Scattering at Sea

On the first Friday of every month, we provide a free, unattended sea scattering for decedent's cremated by Neptune San Diego. Although loved ones are not present on the boat, there is an area on shore where friends and family can congregate to see the boat before it heads out to perform the scattering at sea. For a small fee (refer to General Price List), this service can also be purchased to scatter the cremated remains of loved ones who did not use Neptune San Diego for cremation.

We also offer private two-hour boat and yacht charters for families that want to be present or take part in the scattering at sea (refer to the GPL).

Travel Protection

For members that choose to pre-pay for the cremation, we also offer a Worldwide Travel Protection Plan. This Plan provides coverage for a member's death when it occurs anywhere outside of our service area. Enrollment in the plan requires a one-time fee of $399.00.
